College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Professionals of Saskatchewan

We are pleased to announce that on January 29, 2024, the Government of Saskatchewan proclaimed the Act for the Saskatchewan Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (SAMRT), and we are now hereby known as the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Professionals of Saskatchewan (CMRIPS)

This exciting name change truly represents our role and aligns with other regulatory bodies across Canada. The name also serves to uphold our mandate of ensuring regulatory compliance and our primary role of protecting the public.

The journey began in 2015 with laying the groundwork for the regulation of the diagnostic medical sonographers (DMS) in the province of Saskatchewan. As part of The Miscellaneous Statutes (Health Professions) Amendment Act, 2023 (Bill 120), to amend the existing health profession legislative framework to support regulatory best practices, SAMRT included an amendment to regulate the diagnostic medical sonographers under the SAMRT Act.

Perseverance and hours of challenging work led us to this important date, and it could not have been accomplished without the unwavering support of Council as well as our public representatives who always ensure the focus remains on accountability to the public and their safety.

The focus in 2024 will now turn to licensing the DMS professionals under CMRIPS. There are also website changes and various documents that need updating to reflect the new name. As this will take time to complete, we ask for your patience and understanding as we work towards transitioning in the most practical and efficient way possible.

Another important part of the transition to CMRIPS is rebranding which will include the development of a new logo. Details on the logo selection process and its unveiling will be shared at a later date.

Although we still have work to do, we are excited about what the future holds. We look forward to welcoming the DMS professionals as they become licensed members of the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Professionals of Saskatchewan.
