Government of Saskatchewan - Call for Public Representatives

Do you have an interest in health care issues in Saskatchewan? Please consider the following opportunity to make a difference.

The Ministry of Health is seeking motivated individuals for important volunteer public representative positions on health professional councils in Saskatchewan.

Public representatives perform a vital role on the councils of Saskatchewan’s 26 self-regulating health professional bodies. They help regulators remain transparent and accountable by providing a public voice on the councils.

Public representatives are expected to be full participating council members.

We are looking for the following skills and abilities:

  • Commitment to the regulated health profession mandate of public protection
  • Interest in learning about health professional self-regulation
  • Commit the time to prepare for, attend, and contribute to meetings
  • Strong communication/active listening skills
  • Enjoy being part of a collaborative team
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Strong computer skills; access to email and internet
  • Able to read, process, and analyze significant amounts of information
  • Ideally, previous experience/knowledge in:
    • Board policy/governance
    • Professional self-regulation
    • Finance/auditing/accounting
    • Health care system knowledge
    • Law (particularly in the areas of regulatory and/or administrative law)

Typically, these are two-or three-year appointments which may be extended for a second term. Meetings are usually held in Regina or Saskatoon or may be held virtually. Typically, the commitment would range from four to 12 meetings per year although the number of meetings may vary. Additional preparation time is expected in addition to the time commitment to attend meetings.

Besides serving on as council members, additional sub-committee responsibilities may also be assigned to public representatives.

An honorarium and travel expenses will be paid to public representatives.
